Adoption Information and Options | LifeClinic Community Resources

Is adoption right for me?

There are thousands of couples who want children but can’t have them, as well as many families who have a heart for adoption. Adoption has many benefits for all involved. By gathering adoption information and choosing to make an adoption plan, you can selflessly give your child a safe place to live and make someone’s dream come true.

Benefits of Adoption:

  • Continue on with your previous plans or goals.
  • Live independently.
  • You won’t have to be a parent before you’re ready.
  • Your education or career will not be affected.
  • You can continue to have contact with your child and the adoptive family if you choose.

Can I choose the family that adopts my baby?

Yes! Most agencies have many qualified and approved couples or families for you to choose from.

How much contact can I have with my child after the birth and after the adoption?

There are three different types of adoptions: open, semi-open, and closed. Open means you are allowed ongoing visits with your child. Semi-open means you will stay in touch through letters and pictures. Closed means the adoption will be confidential and your child will not have any contact with you. You get to choose the type of adoption process you want.

How much will my child know about me?

You should provide a thorough medical history for your child, but the rest is up to you.

Both biological parents have rights. If you do not agree on adoption or you are not in contact with the biological father anymore, the courts will work with you both to determine parental rights.

Can my child find me if he/she wants to someday?

The laws of the state determine when and how your child can get information in the adoption file. The adoption type: open, semi-open, or closed, also plays a role in whether he or she will be able to contact you.

How can I be sure my child will be cared for?

Each couple must undergo rigorous screening and meet certain standards. A caseworker will also continue checking in with the parents to assess how your child is doing. It’s valuable to note over 90 percent of all adopted children have positive feelings regarding their adoption.

Can I get help with medical and living expenses while making an adoption plan?

There are many agencies that provide assistance with these necessities and oftentimes the adoptive family will help pay for things. Should you choose adoption, your caseworker will be able to answer this question.

Adoption, while a difficult choice to make, can be highly beneficial for both you and your child. Learn more about making an adoption plan by scheduling an appointment with LifeClinic.
